Err...hate to break it to ya bud, but the internet is not full of nice people who won't do anything to you unless provoked. If your personal info is posted ANYWHERE in the internet you can damn well expect it to get stolen and used for other's personal gain. Just pray that some sicko dosen't find it and decide to do something to you personally.

*Sigh* Why are our legislators so thick and out of touch? Makes me lose a bit more faith in America when I see stuff like this....lol who am I kidding? it's all already gone!

Anyone remember when a senator was convinced to propose a bill outlawing di-hydrogen oxide (a.k.a. water)?

There was a TV show that did that, I thought it was great. It just goes to show that if you use big, scientific words you can make people believe anything these days; wow, that's a scary prospect.

Oh and of the Kentuckian:

JS Mill does not approve.

I second that. Once, I told some foulmouthed little kid in ABs to "Please go procreate with yourself." and he told said "fine, at least I'm making something good unlike u u stupid noob"

Another reason why this law would be stupid... Isn't there some law that says you can't knowingly harvest the personal detail of children under 13? What about younger kids on the internet... would the websites have to take the personal detail of younger people? Of course they could state that you have to be older than 12 to use the site, but of course people can lie about their age...

Someone needs to link that guy to this thread.

Well, I hope he's reading his email. Here's what I sent (the filled in parts are required fields, the address is a curry house in Manchester if you want to know):

Quote:
Form Confirmation

Thank you for submitting the following information:

prefix:
First: Rei
Last: Dione
street: Manchester Rd, Droylsden
street2:
city: Manchester
state: 51
zip: M43 6QF
subject: Anti-anonymous internet posting
email:
phone:
Submit: Submit Information
message

I'd just like to ask you a question, you needn't reply, I just want you to think about this Anti-Anonymous Internet Posting bill you were talking about. Do you really think it's a good idea? Do you have any idea the kind of people that exist in the world, not just Kentucky? The information that would need to be provided to not be anonymous is ludicrous. If people get hold of that, think of what will happen.

Here's a example:

Say one person with socialist views posts in their blog that they'd like a nationalized Health Care system (like the NHS here in Britain). Another person reads and, being heavily anti-socialist, decides to 'correct' the Blogger. With your bill, the information of this Blogger would be easily accessible to anybody determined enough to get it. Therefore, the anti-socialist has every means to hunt down and 'correct' the Blogger, and not just in peaceful talking means either.

Already, in the anonymous era of the Internet, have people been found and hurt, even killed, but people they're only ever interacted with online. If we lost our ability to be anonymous freedom of opinion would be lost for fear of physical retribution from complete strangers; not to mention the amount of pedophiles and stalkers that could use this personal information to kidnap and abuse people.

Just think it over, I implore you. Safety on the Internet is paramount, but this is not the way to go about it. We need education, not legislation.
A bit sappy, and my paragraphing was lost, I'll correct that later, but it gets the point across.

Edit: There we go, Enter Key FTW

Good point. They probably think a 13-and-under have little to no business posting on forums and such, but people lie about their age, true. Then again, they didn't provide all the information.

I'm 22 and I don't get why they request postal/ZIP codes for a lot of registrations. I avoid stuff where I have to send my whole address unless it's something I buy off TigerDirect or Amazon, and I do give a fake postal code (actually it's not fake, a couple of friends and I use the same postal code). With it, it's fairly easy to find a street where people live (well in Canada it works by street and the side of the street you live in). But I doubt they need this information, really.

Great points already raised so I won't go into how phenomenally idiotic this is from those angles.

I'm assuming since he's a state rep this is a federal bill? Either way though, state or federal, what do we do with the "foreigners" on US sites, or US residents on foreign sites? We CAN'T require all the world's citizens to follow this badly planned and unenforcible law. Will the US then become another China and close off "our" internet from the world? Hmmmm yeah, that totally seems in keeping with our free democratic philosophy. Constitution much?

Next will we abolish anyone writing anonymously to say, a newspaper? That's one way to eliminate future Deep Throats I guess.

Somehow I doubt that this is the only thread on the internet raging at this guy. How do you think the friends down at 4chan are going to take this?

However, I do agree that if we were to send links to the 10 000 threads discussing this (from all over the web) it might change his mind.

Tim Couch is not part of the US Senate or House of Representatives. He is part of the Kentucky state legislature. He is the representative for the 90th district in Kentucky. So I'm not sure if this is a federal bill or just a state bill (even more ridiculous if it is).

http://www.lrc.ky.gov/legislator/H090.htm

Thats the link to his page for Kentucky legislature. It isn't all that interesting but at least he isn't a hypocrite; he's posted his address, phone number, all sorts of fun stuff.

One thing I just remembered.

I was browsing another forum when I came across a thread about some website. The website promoted rape, wife-beating, woman-abuse, and violence. It's on SomethingAwful.com, I think... but apparently there were these girls (I think?) that decided to point out how wrong the website in question was.

Apparently, on that bad site, it's common knowledge that if women post and tell them that they're dumbasses, they send out men to wherever the women live. And one of the girls that trolled the bad site said that she remembered seeing this huge, angry-looking man outside her house one day.

Imagine what would happen if that law was passed.

That is the thread I read. (you can see where I posted) Warning, it can have some pretty offensive stuff that's quoted from the subject...

Some people shouldn't hold any political power. This guy is one of those people.

I say we write up a Bill, banning Americans from being dumb.

Didn't get past the first page, that's utterly disgusting. I'm all for freedom of speech and freedom of opinion, but that RIGHT THERE is breaking the Harm Principle and all the bounds of decency. I'd hunt down every "man" that thinks like that and slowly flay them alive. Starting with their precious external reproductive organs.

Around the 22nd page, there's the post I was talking about.

http://forums.quizilla.com/showpost....&postcount=215

I actually did haunt that website, the admin posted somewhere that if a woman did come on his site and post, he would send men to rape her or something.

Would you really want scum like that to be able to stalk your wives, mothers, aunts, cousins, sisters, girlfriends, and friends? This dumb law needs to be shot down, or the guy who runs the sexism site will have free run of tormenting women. It'll only make e-bullying easier. The crime rate would go up... hey, Kentucky Lawmaker Person, are you reading this?

I sure as hell hope that Kentuckian pratt is reading one of the many threads on this. He is so wrong I hope he makes a public apology and official stops requesting moronic laws.

I'm all angry from that damn website now. I hope their service provider will pull the plug on it...

I remember you talking about this once, and that's the kinda sicko who either needs his address posted somewhere (lol) or shouldn't have access to a database containing names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.

Yeah... thea idea of e-bullying coming IRL-buylling - and more - is really bothering me. >_>.

I'll check the real website later on. Right now I'm far too lazy.

Don't waste your time... they're also crazy homophobes. To them, if you don't agree with their misogyny, you're either female or a gay guy. And they hate both.
